Macedonia’s State Statistics Office reports that 1,061 structures were built illegally in 2015, of which 21.9 percent percent were housing units, 15.4 percent were extensions, alterations and adaptations.
Nearly 10 percent of them were commercial buildings, 7.7 percent were garages while the remainder were made up of fences, stairs, terraces, canopies, temporary structures and auxiliary structures. Nearly all of the illegal construction (98.4 percent) was carried out on privately owned real estate.
