Construction of 911 flats started in South Bohemia in the first half of this year, down 13 percent year-on-year. Companies completed 1,163 flats in the region between January and June, an increase of almost 16 percent compared to the same period last year. Most of the completed apartments and those under construction are in single-family homes. This is based on preliminary data published by the Czech Statistical Office (ČSÚ).
Construction of 473 new family houses started this year in South Bohemia, which was almost 60 percent less year-on-year. In most of the South Bohemian districts, flats in family houses prevailed, most of all in České Budějovice, where they accounted for 81 percent of all flats. “In the Český Krumlov district, on the other hand, the share of family houses in construction starts was only 16 percent,” said Irena Votrubová from the regional administration of the Czech Statistical Office in České Budějovice. In the Český Krumlov region, most of the flats under construction are in new apartment buildings.
Construction companies in southern Bohemia completed 1,163 flats in the first half of the year, of which over two-thirds were in new family houses. Statisticians recorded a year-on-year increase in the number of completed flats in four South Bohemian districts, the highest in Strakonice and Tábor, where the number of these flats more than doubled year-on-year. “The deepest decline was reported by the Jindřichův Hradec district,” Votrubová said.
In the Czech Republic, 18,103 flats were started from January to June this year, a fifth fewer than in the same period last year. The number of flats under construction fell in all regions. The number of completed flats in the Czech Republic in the first half of the year was 17,849, an increase of less than three percent year-on-year.
Last year, construction companies completed 2013 flats in the South Bohemia Region. Almost two thirds of the flats were in family houses. Most flats were completed in České Budějovice, while the highest construction intensity was recorded last year in the municipality of Lipno nad Vltavou. Over the last twenty years, i.e. from 2003 to last year, the most intensive construction in the region has taken place mainly in Šumava, around Lipno and in villages near České Budějovice and Jindřichův Hradec.
