Slovak unemployment slips below 7%

20 July 2017

Slovakia’s unemployment rate has sunk to 6.9 percent, its lowest level since 1991. Reuters reports that job vacancies have continued to rise in recent months as pressure on labor resources grows across Central and Eastern Europe. The country’s grew 3.3 percent during the first three months of the year. Prime minister Robert Fico says that the number of jobless could fall still further, according to Reuters.
“If (the growth above 4 percent) continues, if there is pressure and interest from investors I believe that soon we’ll see unemployment at 6 percent, but the structure of the unemployed won’t allow for further reduction,” he said. Companies are head hunting across the country to find new workers, with many turning to other countries in order to ramp up production.
