Czech wages rising slowly despite lack of labor

20 July 2017

Czech companies aren’t raising wages despite what is increasingly being seen as a lack of labor on the market. This at least is the conclusion of an anlaysis carried about by researchers at CSOB who were tracking 20 of the most sought after professions, who say that unemployment is currently at a 19-year low. What the CSOB study demonstrated was that employers in regions with high demand for the major professions were only offering salaries CZK 4,000 higher than in regions with lower demand. The result is that few employees would be willing to move from one part of the country to another. “The lack of employees is one of the main barriers for the further growth of Czech industry and for the entire economy,” says CSOB’s chief economist, Martin Kupka.
