Czech Railways won’t sell Masarykovo train station in Prague 1

29 June 2017

Czech Railways (CD) has decided not to sell the Masarykovo train station in Prague 1 to the railway operator SŽDC. The Masarykovo station as well as Brno’s main station were not included in the portfolio of 1,500 railway station properties that CD recently sold to SŽDC. The two stations should have been handed over in a separate transaction, but CD changed its mind and now intends to reconstruct Masarykovo and make it its flagship. Ownership of the station can help CD win the tender to operate high-speed trains from Václav Havel Airport in Ruzyně to the Prague city center. CD is also cooperating with Penta, which plans to redevelop the area between the Masarykovo station and Florenc into a business neighborhood designed by Zaha Hadid.
