Liviu Dragnea, head of the Romanian Social Democrats, has demanded the resignation of the current Prime Minister, Sorin Grindeanu, along with the rest of the government, saying he’s run out of patience over the delays with which the government program is being applied. Grindeanu, also a Social Democrat) says he has no intention of resigning, but the matter will be put to the test at a party meeting today. If the vote goes against Grindeanu and he still refused to step down, Dragnea has threatened to withdraw his political support. Grindeanu survived calls for him to step down during the period of mass anti-corruption demonstrations at the beginning of the year. But he may not be able to survive now that his biggest threat is coming from within his own party.
