Construction has kicked off on Sam Chang’s McSam Hotel Group’s mixed-use hotel at 140 West 28th Street in Chelsea. The 45 story, 146,000 square foot property will feature a 522 key hotel and approximately 2,300 sqf of restaurant and lounge space as well as offices and a fitness centers. Designed by Gene Kaufman Architect the building will be one of the tallest buildings in Chelsea, an opportunity made possible by the air rights that came with the property. Said GKA founder and principal Gene Kaufman, “The demand for hotel rooms in Chelsea continues to grow, with ever larger and ever-taller hotels being constructed to accommodate the number of tourists wishing to stay in this vibrant neighborhood. With its variety of restaurants, shops and easy access to other parts of Manhattan, Chelsea seems to show no sign of losing its attraction for visitors.”
