Brno wants to open its exhibition area to the public and is planning to build an entertainment park for families with children. The city is preparing a CZK 7.5m tender for the project. Veletrhy Brno, the company that manages the exhibition grounds, objects to the plans, claiming this would negatively impact the exhibition business, which produced CZK 263m in profits last year. The city holds a 100-percent share in Veletrhy Brno, allowing it to decide on the future development and use of the whole area. Brno Mayor Petr Vokřál says that the exhibition area is currently not used efficiently and supports building an entertainment park there. The so-called Brno Prátr would be the first step in opening the area to the public. The city will also hold an architectural contest that should produce a planning study for the area that would pave the way for a change to the master plan. The city, however, does not have the funding to finance these changes, which will require a change in the conservation regime.
