Prague, Brno have until 2020 to complete master plans

27 March 2017

Prague and Brno should be able to complete their new master plans no later than 2020, says the Czech minister for regional development, Karla Šlechtová. She points to the fact that both cities have already extended the deadlines twice. Without new master plans in place, construction projects will come to a halt in both Prague and Brno. Brno’s planning deputy mayor, Martin Ander, however, believes 2024 is more realistic. Šlechtová argues that the law cannot be bent whenever a city is not able to make a deadline, adding that political leaders in Prague and Brno had 14 years to create new master plans. Both cities were also asked to present alternative solutions. Prague has come up with zoning studies for individual locations, while Brno’s Ander says the construction office will be able to deal with planning even without a master plan.
