Czech company seeking European patent for 3D laser road repair technology

20 March 2017

Prague-based engineering company ROG is hoping to secure a European patent for 3D laser technology that helps increase the accuracy and efficiency of road repairs. The technology is already being used in the Czech Republic, but ROG is now weeks away from being awarded with a European patent for the technology. The company is also planning to secure a US patent and has an eye on Canada, Vietnam and various Arab countries, Tomáš Zatloukal, commercial director of 3Data, ROG’s business partner, told Lidové noviny.

The idea is based on 3D road mapping, including drains and drainage channels. The results are then fed into an excavation machine, which calculates more level roadways with an accuracy rate of within 2 millimeters. The technology can reduce overall repair costs by at least 12 percent, and the highway should better withstand future wear and tear. Follow-up service includes checking that all road layers have been laid according to the agreement between the road authority and the construction companies.
