Prague wants to open the southern part of the Žižkov freight railway station area for redevelopment. The city has greenlighted a change to the master plan that would open the way to residential development in the area, according to the deputy mayor for planning, Petra Kolínská. City councillors also agreed to conduct a study to route out a new tram track for the area. Sekyra Group has been preparing redevelopment projects for the southern part of the Žižkov station in partnership with Czech Railways for years. The northern part of the station, which was bought by Central Group last year, does not require a change to the master plan. The developer hopes to start digging on the 128,000 sqm site in 2019 and plans to build 2,500 flats there. But it has yet to secure planning and construction permits.
