Modernization of Czech railway stations to cost CZK 10bn

Modernizing railway stations in the Czech Republic will cost CZK 10bn. The national railways operator, SŽDC, hopes state and EU funds will cover the costs. SŽDC is planning to refurbish 60 to 80 of the most frequented buildings over the next three to four years. The railway manager took over 1,500 buildings and 600 railway stations. The buildings could accommodate state offices and police. In 2017, SŽDC plans to invest CZK 470m into station repairs and CZK 123m into modernization efforts. The railway stations in Náchod, Turnov, Přerov, Břeclav, Lipník nad Bečvou, Kuřim, Sokolov and Hradec Králové will be the first to be modernized. SŽDC acquired 1,500 railway stations from Czech Railways in 2016 at for CZK 3.3bn.
