A concert hall called Rejnok (Stingray), designed by the late architect Jan Kaplický, could end up being built on Štvanice island in Prague. It’s thought that work on the the CZK 2bn investment might be completed by 2022. The new concert hall was originally planned to be constructed in České Budějovice, but the inability of the local musical association gave up the attempt in 2014 after failing to find an investor. Prague’s city councillor responsible for culture Jan Wolf says that Prague currently has funds to invest into culture and that this would be only the second public building the city would have financed in 25 years. The first was the new National technical library in Prague 6 Dejvice. Prague is considering two locations for Rejnok – Štvanice island on the Vltava river and by the Vltavská metro station in Prague 7. Both sites would require substantial flood protection measures, but Wolf says the building would be built on pillars.
