Prague to buy a site at Dejvice square in Prague 6

30 November 2016

Petra Kolínská, Prague’s deputy mayor for city planning, has proposed the city buy a site at Vítězné náměstí in Prague 6, where Sekyra Group had been planning to build Dejvice Centrum, a mixed-use commercial project. The plans had included a shopping mall, offices and space for the nearby technical university. The city hopes the step will unblock development of the area, which has been halted due to fighting among the area’s landowners. The site, an unkempt green park with a parking lot, has hosted farmer’s markets in recent years. The VŠCHT university owns the majority of the site. The remaining space is owned by a private investor and has reportedly changed hands a few times over the last couple of years. Prague plans to launch an international architectural competition for the future development of the site. A commission of local politicians and architects will oversee the process.
