A total of 18,100 out of nearly 99,000 registered companies, or 18.3 percent, were owned by women last year, according to the Financial Agency (FINA). The proportion of women business owners increased from 17.3 percent in 2010 to 20.3 percent in 2014 before falling to 18.3 percent in 2015.
The largest number of women entrepreneurs (21.4 percent) was recorded in Bjelovar-Bilogora County, followed by Zagreb with about 20 percent of all companies registered there owned by women. The smallest number of women-owned businesses was reported in Pozega-Slavonia County at 11 percent.
