Weingarten Realty invests in development site

Weingarten Realty, headquartered in Houston, has picked up 5.2 acres of land for the development in Alexandria, VA of the mixed-use project The Gateway Alexandria. Located at the corner of King and North Beauregard streets, the property will include 352 rental units, of which 74 will be designated as affordable, 110,000 sqf of retail space anchored by Harris Teeter, along with 87,000 sqf of office space. The complex offers below-grade parking for 820 vehicles. The project will be a transit-oriented development located 6 miles from the Capital Beltway and five miles from downtown Washington D.C. Once completed, Weingarten’s net investment is estimated to be $160 million and will include ownership of retail, 275 luxury residences and 23,000 square feet of office space.
