An Olympic park worth millions of euros is set to go up along Domaša lake in eastern Slovakia. The park is set to include a ski slope, a water sports center and an observation tower. Local authorities hope it will attract tourists back to the location where a majority of hotels were forced to close in recent years. The authors of the project are currently looking at financing options. The government approved a €160,000 grant for the project, which is expected to cost €8m. A local group, headed by the mayor of Kvakovce, Radovan Kapral, hopes the investment into sports and leisure infrastructure will create hundreds of new jobs. The inspiration came from the Czech Olympic Park at Lipno lake in Southern Bohemia, which created 800 jobs and attracted 250 tourism businesses to the area.
