The German state of Saxony wants to accelerate construction of a high-speed railway connection between Prague and Dresden. The new track is expected to reduce the travel time between the two cities to less than one hour, according to the Saxon Economic Minister Martin Dulig. The project is scheduled for completion in 2030. Costs are expected to hit €5bn on the Czech side, while Germany will have to front €1.3bn. The new track will cover 140 km (56 km shorter than the current track), with a 26.5 km tunnel under the Krušné hory mountains. Trains should be able to travel at 350 km/hour through the new railway corridor.
