The Meyers Group, officially co-headquartered in Coral Gables and El Paso, Texas, has closed on the purchase of the Camino Real Hotel in El Paso. The historic downtown hotel in the Texas border town has 356 rooms and is located at 101 South El Paso Street. The company plans to renovate the property by upgrading all the rooms, along with the entire lobby level (including its domed restaurant and bar), the grand ballroom on the second floor and meeting rooms and conference space. Originally built in 1912, the Camino Real has been listed since 1979 on the National Register of Historic Places. The work is expected to take up to 18 months to complete. Terms of the sale were not disclosed.
“The hotel was for many years the crown jewel of the Southwest. Our vision is to restore it beyond its former glory and to finally fulfill the pressing need for a convention hotel in downtown El Paso,” Josh Meyers, director of real estate development at Meyers Group, said in a prepared statement.
