Prague is looking for a new head of the Institute for Planning and Development (IPR), who would oversee the preparation of the city’s new master plan. Work on the key planning document for Prague, the so-called Metropolitan Plan, came to a halt after the head of the IPR, architect Petr Hlaváček, and the head of the plan’s preparatory team, architect Roman Koucký, were forced to resign from their posts. The Metropolitan Plan, which developers are eagerly awaiting, should have been completed last year but now won’t likely be finalized until 2022. Prague hopes to choose a new IPR head before Christmas. City officials will also have to find whole new team, as all architects working for the IPR resigned following Hlaváček’s removal. Some of the architects are now calling for the resignation of Prague Deputy Mayor Petra Kolínská, who is in charge of planning. Many blame Kolínská for breaking apart the team working on the master plan. Critics argue that the much-delayed Metropolitan Plan is blocking large-scale development projects and the construction of new flats in Prague.
