The number of tourists in August 2016 was 156,763, with the total number of nights spent in the country 694 641, according to the data of the State Statistical Office. The tourist toal slipped 7.2 percent compared to August 2015, while the number of nights spent by those tourists fell 3.9 percent.
The number of domestic tourists in August 2016 fell 4.5 percent compared to August 2015, while the number of foreign tourists decreased by 10.9 percent. The number of nights spent by domestic tourists in August 2016 decreased by 0.7 percent, whereas the number of nights spent by foreign tourists decreased by 13.8 percent. However, the results for 2016 so far are encouraging, with the January to August figures for domestic travellers rising 4.1 percent compared to 2015 and the total number of foreign guests increasing 4.5 percent.
