St. John’s University sells Oakdale campus for $22.4m

29 September 2016

St. John’s University has sold its Oakdale campus to non-profit international educational organization Amity University in a $22.4 million deal. The 170 acre campus is located on Long Island’s Great South Bay in Suffolk County, and includes 11 buildings totaling 260,000 sqf. St. John’s will continue to offer existing academic programs under a lease agreement through June 2017. Amity University will assume control of the property immediately. The campus was originally the waterfront estate for Frederick G. Bourne, president of the Singer Sewing Machine Company and previously served for many years as the site of LaSalle Military Academy. St. John’s purchased the property in 1998 and invested more than $10 million in renovating classrooms, laboratories and other buildings there.
