The 2016 predictions for Bulgarian tourism appear to have materialized as expected according to Tourism Minister Nikolina Angelkova, Sofia has attracted over 500,000 tourists in 2016. The minister announced the news during the first meeting of mayors of capitals in Central and Eastern Europe and China (a group known as the “16+1”). As a whole, the country recorded over 4.5m tourists since the beginning of the year.
The Tourism Ministry has completed the development of eight cultural-historical routes with interactive maps that will be made public on the ministry website in the coming weeks. This is meant to attract more tourists to Bulgaria and to encourage them to spend more time in the country.
