More than 1 million foreign tourists visited Romania in the first six months of 2016, spending a total of RON 2.76bn, according to the National Statistics Institute.
The majority of foreign travelers (59 percent) came for business reasons, accounting for 57.5 percent of the total spending. Holiday travelers made up the remaining 41 percent.
