David Cameron resigns from Parliament

13 September 2016

Former Prime Minister David Cameron has officially resigned from Parliament “with immediate effect.” The news comes three months after he resigned as PM following the unexpected shock from the Brexit vote to leave the European Union after he had campaigned to remain. “In my view with modern politics, with the circumstances of my resignation, it isn’t really possible to be a proper backbench MP as a former prime minister. I think everything you do will become a big distraction and a big diversion from what the government needs to do for our country,” he told the BBC. Cameron led the country as PM for six years since 2010 and was replaced by Theresa May.
