The new British government has awarded Abellio East Anglia, a Dutch company, the East Anglia rail franchise. This is the first infrastructure decision made by Theresa May and her new government since she came to power last month. Under the agreement, Abellio has to invest GBP 1.40bn into the reconstruction of rail services, which covers routes from London to East Anglia and will add 1,040 carriages to its service. The company has also pledged to cut the average travel times and build in free WiFi in all its transport vehicles. The takeover will officially take place from October 2016.
