Public bodies in the Czech Republic began 1,792 tenders for construction work worth CZK 62.1bn during the first half of 2016. That’s 25 percent more of them than there were for the same period last year, while the volume is 20 percent higher. The numbers have come as a surprise who expected the impact of new legislation making EIA approvals more difficult to come by to be more severe. In July alone, public investors initiated 330 public tenders for construction work worth CZK 10.7bn, which is one-third more than in July 2015. The biggest order was for the modernization and addition to a regional hospital in the town of Nachod. The value of this investment is estimated at CZK 1.3bn.
