FDF Urge for Pause on Sugar Tax

14 July 2016

The Food and Drink Federation (FDF) have launched a manifesto urging the government to delay plans to introduce a sugar tax. The industry, which currently accounts for 16% of UK industry by turnover, has been hit hard with weak consumer confidence after the Brexit vote and is predicted to see further blows due to immigration policies. One in four workers in the sector are from other EU nations. Author of the manifesto Ian Wright claims that the sugar levy would only burden the beverage sector even further. The Taxpayers’ Alliance has predicted that the legislation would see 5,624 fewer jobs. The implementation of the sugar tax is to come into effect in April 2018.
