Marriott International has crossed another hurdle in its acquisition of Starwood Hotels & Resorts. With both Saudi Arabia and Mexico giving their approval the finalization of the merger is only waiting for the go ahead from China. Marriott and Starwood continue to cooperate with the Chinese regulatory agency (MOFCOM) and will be prepared to close the transaction promptly upon receiving authorization from from the country. Stockholders of both Marriott and Starwood overwhelmingly approved proposals related to the transaction on April 8. Until legal close, the companies have worked independently and have continued to operate as separate and independent entities.
