The fourth metro line in Prague has run into a hurdle that might delay completion of its first part, currently scheduled for 2023, by another ten years. The city of Prague wanted to start work on the D line that is to connect Písnice on the outskirts of Prague 4 to Náměstí míru in Prague 2, next year. The plan has derailed over land buyouts, however, that started last year. Petra Kolínská, the new Prague’s councilor for city planning, said that the city should have started land buyouts much earlier, given that the new metro line has been in planning now for 20 years. In order to tap into EU funds for the investment, the section between Písnice and Pankrác must be completed by 2023. Another complication, however, is that the planning permit for the metro D is only valid until the end of June.
