Construction of 4,599 flats started in Slovakia in Q1 2016, up 5.7 percent y-o-y. Completions dropped, on the other hand, by 18.9 percent to 3,099, according to data compiled by the Slovak Statistical Office, while 67,312 units were under construction by the end of March, an increase of 7.5 percent y-o-y. Of the new flat construction starts, 4,224 (91.8 percent) were in private projects. Public sector started construction on 373 flats, an increase of 342 units compared to the same period of 2015. Private developers completed 2,981 units over the first three months of 2016, while the public sector built 181 units. The majority of the total was completed in Bratislava region (27 percent).
