Slovak construction sector to grow 4.7%

10 June 2016

Eight out of 10 Slovak construction companies believe the industry will grow by 4.7 percent in 2016, according to the latest quarterly report by CEEC Research. CEEC director Jiří Vacek says current expectations are more optimistic than in the previous quarter. He explains that growth will be driven by the revival of building construction, based on private financing, which will compensate for a drop in infrastructure construction. Big construction companies are anticipating a drop of 1.7 percent in 2016, as their business depends on public orders, financed from EU funds. In May, construction companies were not able to fully use their potential, with 17 percent of their capacity idle. In 2017, construction businesses foresee 4.6 percent growth, according to CEEC. Big companies are even more optimistic, with growth expectations around 5.1 percent.
