Gabriela Firea elected mayor of Bucharest

Gabriela Firea of the PSD political party was elected mayor of Bucharest, taking 43.56 percent of the vote on June 5. Dan Nicuşor (USB) came in second with 29.05 percent followed by Catalin Predoiu (PNL) with 10.74 percent, according to partial results released by the Central Electoral Bureau. Voter turnout was low with only 33.09 percent casting a ballot in the capital.

“I am very happy that my project, which meant a capital with better schools and hospitals, solving the problem of infernal traffic in Bucharest, with many more playgrounds for children and many more parks to reduce the pollution, transparency in the City Hall and zero tolerance to corruption, has won,” Firea told supporters.
