2 June 2016

Skanska USA has won a $62.7 million contract to build a research and education facility on the Johns Hopkins Medicine All Children’s Hospital campus in St. Petersburg, Florida. The 230,000 sqf facility will include 30,000 square feet of research and laboratory spaces and another 30,000 sqf of educational space, which will feature a 400 seat auditorium. The project will also include 50,000 sqf of offices and administrative spaces, a 20,000 sqf collaboration space and a biorepository.

More than 200 people will work in the building that will house the hospital’s Maternal, Fetal & Neonatal Institute, Heart Institute, Cancer & Blood Disorders Institute and the Institute for Brain Protection Sciences. Designed by architecture firm HDR, construction on the project began in March and is slated for completion in 2018.

ā€œThis job is particularly rewarding for Skanska as it will address the growing need for healthcare services across Florida and further education, which is the backbone of this community,ā€ said Fred Hames, executive vice president and general manager at Skanska USA Building in Florida. ā€œInvesting in the expansion of a medical research and educational center ensures this community can continue to deliver quality care to an increasing patient population.ā€
