Czech central bank to take less eurosceptical stance under Rusnok

30 May 2016

Newly appointed governor of Czech National Bank (ČNB) Jiří Rusnok has said that the central bank will take a less eurosceptical stance when he takes over the role than it has done under its current leader Miroslav Singer. However, it will stick to its critical stance towards the Eurozone. He said that while he believes the Czech Republic belongs to the Eurozone, it is not „mentally or politically ripe“ for membership in the common currency. Rusnok takes over the top position at the CNB in July. He also said central bank will announce in advance when it plans to lift measures keeping the price of the Czech crown at CZK 27. Singer implemented the measures two and half years ago.
