Boston-based Wilson Butler Architects has been selected by Auburn University to design a new $50 million performing arts center. The new facility will include a 1,200-seat multi-purpose theater, a recital hall, practice rooms, and studio and support spaces for students, faculty and guest artists. The new 90,000 sqf performance center will be located at the southern perimeter of Auburn’s main campus. The design team includes Atlanta-based tvsdesign, selected as the project’s Architect of Record. The new facility is expected to open by 2019.
Funding for the center will come in part from a donation made by Auburn University graduates John and Rosemary Brown. Approximately $25 million from the Brown’s gift will be dedicated to building the center. The remaining $25 million will be raised from additional donations.
“Wilson Butler was selected based upon their strong understanding of the processes, development of strong solutions, support of our constituents and their connection with the community,” said University Architect Jim Carroll, who said the studio’s work is nationally known.
