UNIT architects won the European-wide architectural contest for the new Brno city center. The design also includes a new main train station for Brno. The contest proved that the current location of the train station has much greater potential than its critics claimed, thanks to its transport access and location next to the city center. Lengthy discussions about potentially moving the train station 1 km south should end with a public referendum in October, when Brno residents will get to vote on the issue. The winning project, however, could shift public opinion in support of the station’s current location and investing into the revitalization of the whole area. Brno’s deputy mayor, Martin Ander, told news outlets that he welcomes the project, as it will create new neighborhood that will connect the city.
