The average income per household member during the first three months of 2016 was €632, up 4.2 percent y-o-y, according to data released by Bulgaria’s National Statistics Institute. Wages and salaries accounted for 57.1 percent of the total, up 2 percent y-o-y, followed by pensions (26.5 percent), self-employment (6.6 percent) and social benefits (2.8 percent).
Average expenditures per household member during the first quarter of 2016 was €567, up 0.9 percent y-o-y. Food accounted for 31.1 percent of the total, followed by housing (18.1 percent) and transport and communication (12 percent).
