Slovakia’s minister of transportation Roman Brecely has promised that the Prešov bypass will be ready in less than a year. People driving in and out of the city currently have to deal with heavy congestion and up to half hour delays, which is both absurd and economically crippling for such a regional city. The minister said that workers would return to the site in June, following a three year delay to complete the 4km stretch of road. The project became mired in controversy until a directive from the government last year ordered a new tender to be held for the construction. The country’s competition office is currently inspecting the results of the tender and is expected to approve it in the coming days. “We consider it a Gordian knot and a traumatic situation for Prešov,” said the minister.
