Romanian president confirms plans to build mosque in Bucharest

4 April 2016

The Romanian government unveiled plans to build a mosque in Bucharest, despite opposition from numerous politicians.

“During my visit to Bucharest, I discussed this issue with the president. At the moment, our colleagues are working to obtain permits. We also have a completed project, but now we want to develop it. This will be the most beautiful expression of dialogue and solidarity between the two countries,” said Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan after meeting with Romanian President Klaus Iohannis. Iohannis added that the project is in the construction permit application process. “The issue is the competence of the municipality, and they are working on these documents,” said Iohannis.
