Kapsch could get contract extension for Czech motorway toll collection

18 March 2016

The Czech Republic may end up entrusting Kapsch again with the operation of its motorway toll collection system. Kapsch’s contract for the toll system it installed terminates at the end of this year, but, this could be extended without holding a public tender. The Czech transport ministry, which has launched a tender for the order, says that the technology in the system is so unique that no other company would be able to operate it. The new contract, worth CZK 6bn, would include the information necessary to allow a new operator to take over the system after 2019. The order attracted three other bidders: Slovak SkyToll, Hungarian Toll Service and Asseco. SkyToll plans to sue the state over the extension of the contract with Kapsch.
