New land for Lisbon airport discussed by council

16 March 2016

Lisbon’s city council will be discussing the transfer 21,000 square meters of land to Airports of Portugal (ANA). The transfer is part of an agreement from 2003 under which the city is obligated to hand over three plots of land: Vila Formosa (27,888 sqm), Quinta da Vila Formosa (21,547 sqm) and Benagazil Palace (5,280 sqm). The agreement was made in order to allow the city’s airport to expand if needed. Currently, the land is occupied by the municipal warehouse of Figo Maduro, whose material will be transferred to facilities in Prior Velho (in the neighboring municipality of Loures, Lisbon).
