Warsaw secures PLN 3.5bn to extend II metro line

22 February 2016

Warsaw’s city hall has secured PLN 3.5bn in subsidies to expand the city’s second metro line. City officials have already selected contractors for the scheme, which is expected to kick off in March, but the project needs to collect further permits before construction can begin. The investment will add three new stations on the eastern part of the city, in the Praga and Targówek districts, and another three in western Warsaw, in Wola. All stations are due to open in 2019. Metroprojekt and ILF produced the designs.

In the long-term, Warsaw is planning to add another three stations in Targówek, Bródno and Bemowo. Work on those stations is expected to begin by 2019. The city is also planning to add between 15 and 59 new metro trains to service the increased territory.
