LitPol Link, a high-voltage direct current (HVDC) interconnector between Lithuania and Poland, officially started operating on Wednesday. The €370m project was completed last year. It is part of the EU’s Baltic Ring initiative, which aims to interconnect the power grids of nine countries bordering the Baltic Sea: Lithuania, Poland, Germany, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Estonia and Latvia. LitPol Link was financed by the EU, the Lithuanian electricity transmission system operator (Litgrid) and Poland’s PSE. The global technology company ABB supplied HVDC converters for the project.
