D8 from Prague to Dresden to finish in 2016?

18 January 2016

The long-delayed completion of the D8 motorway linking Prague and Dresden could be completed this year, according to a report by Czech Television. It claims that the last section of the road beginning at Lovosice was supposed to have been completed in 2000, but work only began in 2007 and was further complicated by a landslide. A small portion of the road between Lovosice and Bilinka was opened in 2012, but the remaining 12 kilometers has proven highly complicated because of the nature of the mountains it passes through. The stretch involves two tunnels that are 250 meters and 600 meters long, as well as the completion of an interchange with the R63 express road from Teplice. The completion of D8 is expected to relieve congestion on the express roads from Teplice and from Usti nad Labem.
