Hungary is still at least four years off from adopting the euro, according to market sources. Although the country fulfils the majority of the criteria required to replace the forint with the euro, Hungarian lawmakers have said they don’t want to consider the issue at the moment. In order to adopt the euro, EU members countries must keep their budget deficits below 3 percent, which Hungary accomplished in 2012. Another requirement is that inflation cannot exceed the inflation rate of the EU’s three best performing countries by more than 1.5 percent.
