Pragueās sixth district and the financial group PPF have filed court proceedings against each other in a conflict over a controversial planned mixed-use development. PPF has been renting land owned by Prague 6 in preparation for the construction of an office and retail project designed by the architect Radan HubiÄka. But Prague 6 claims PPF owes it tens of millions of crowns in back rent, forcing it to sue the company in order to collected.
PPF filed a counter suit demanding the rent be reduced, claiming that state offices are blocking the project from being realized. The Ministry of Culture overruled a positive finding by the cityās historic monuments office and said the building, located on VitÄznĆ© nĆ”m., was unacceptable. Its design led to the project being dubbed the Polar Bear. PPF is appealing to the countryās supreme court in an attempt to revive the scheme.
