21 December 2015

The new missile defense shield in Romania’s Olt county, has been completed. All components have been installed and tested, and by the summer the system will become operational, according to Mediafax. The investment amounted to $177m, of which $11.2 m came from Romania. “All the main activities of military construction at the base, all that is required for system operation and work has been completed and the project was achieved with lower costs than expected,” said the US ambassador to Romania Hans Klemm.

The new system has angered Russia, however. Over the weekend, the Commander of The Russian Strategic Missile Forces said that Russian missiles can penetrate the shield.
