MSC Cruises plans $200m leisure investment into Bahamian island

18 December 2015

MSC Cruises, whose U.S. headquarters is in Fort Lauderdale, has announced that it will invest $200 million to develop a Bahamian island for travelers by December 2017. Described as the biggest island development of any cruise company in the Caribbean, Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve will encompass 95 acres of land with 11,400 feet of beachfront located 65 miles southeast of Miami. Plans call for a 2,000-seat amphitheater with restaurants, bars, live music, an event pavilion, an inland lagoon and a zip wire across the island. The company signed a 100-year lease agreement with Bahamas Prime Minister Perry Christie that will allow it to occupy and develop the island. Ground breaking on the project is slated for March 2016.
