Viktor Mizo, director of Macedonia’s network of Technological Industrial Development Zones (TIRZ), expects exports from these parks will exceed €1.5bn in 2015. Built close to heavily populated city centers and offering a range of subsidies and pre-prepared construction plots, the zones have attracted manufacturing investments from Germany, the US, the UK and Belgium.
“We expect that exports from the zones will be higher than our projections. December is a peculiar month, when many of the plants in Western Europe we produce parts for are closed, but there is a chance we end the month with over €100m in exports, and to break through the €1.5bn barrier for the entire year,” Mizo said. “Compared to 2014, when exports totaled €1.17bn, this means we have easily overshot our projections and the expectations we made at the beginning of the year.”
